Details of Jaldapara National Park
Jaldapara National Park is a famous forest for one horned Asiatic Rhinos. Jaldapara is one of the largest National park in the Dooars. Jaldapara National park situated at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas in Alipurduar district of northern West Bengal, India. Jaldapara situated on the banks of the river Torsa, and many others river is flowing in this location. Jaldapara is home to famous one horned Rhino and a variety of other wildlife, birds and trees. Elephant riding and Jungle safari is very famous of Jaldapara National Park. Jaldapara is spread over an area of 216.51 sq km, nearest city is Madarihat.
➤ Communication of Jaldapara:- If you want to reach Jaldapara by train then, nearest station is Madarihat, Falakata and Hasimara. The nearest airport is at Bagdogra, which is about 13km driving distance from Siliguri and 136km from Jaldapara National Park.
➤ History of Jaldapara:- Jaldapara, the vast grassland with patches of riverine forest was declared a sanctuary in 1941 for protection of the great variety flora and fauna, particularly the one horned Rhinoceres, an animal threatened with extinction. In May 2014, it was declared as a National Park.
➤ Attraction of Jaldapara:- The main attraction of Jaldapara is the one horned Rhinoceros. The park is home to elephants, Python, Indian Bison, Hog Deer, Spotted Deer, Chital, Sambar, Barking Deer, Wild Pigs, Leopards, Jungle Cat, Leopards Cat, Fishing Cat, Indian Civet, Indian Pangolin etc.
The place is a birdwatchers paradise with ever 350 species of bird recorded to have been seen. You can get fishing Eagle, Crested Eagle, Jungle Fowl, Peafowl etc, and huge number of Parrot, Hornbill in Jaldapara National Park.
Many type of tree you can see in this Forest. Most common and important trees are Sal, Rain tree, Shirish, Shimul, Teak etc. The best wood furniture made from Teak comes from mature trees, it can take around 80 years before a Teak tree planted today is harvested for wood.
The region receives highest rainfall during the month of July - August. The best time to visit Dooars in this location is about 350 cm.
